Day 13 - Temples

Heyo!

We slept in again till around 11. In general, all this traveling takes a lot out of us, so we usually sleep in most if the time.

Again, Riko's mom made a wondeful breakfast for us!

We planned the day before to go to Kinkaku Temple, a shrine, and another temple. An exciting day planned out ^-^

We first took a bus to Kinkaku Temple. The buses are cheaper to use in Kyoto than the subway system so that's what we used throughout the first two days here.

It was an amazing gold temple and Riko told us many historical facts regarding the layout.

Since it was such a hot day, we wanted some smoothies and ice cream:

We then went on the bus, again, to our next destination, the Kitanotenmangu shrine. This place was really cool, because rubbing the cow heads is said to make you smarter, and it's also a place to pray for good fortune.

Next, we took another bus, a bit farther to Kiyomizu temple. There were a lot of market places leading to the temple so we couldn't help but to look around!

As we climbed up toward the temple itself, it was getting cloudy and I wasn't sure if it was going to pour or not.

There was a section where these heavy sandal type things called getta, a spear, and a big pole were displayed so for those who could carry them are given good fortune. We carried the sandals but those other items were too heavy-looking to even consider trying.

There was also a small love shrine inside the temple where I bought a cupid luck charm.

Meghan bought a love fortune paper, where she picked a future love prediction. Let's just say that she had to buy a good luck charm, too.

The bad fortune gets hanged on a line and people hope it doesn't become true.
Somebody's bad fortune was really lonely.

This was when it started pouring like crazy! We went back to the temple and stayed there for like an hour before just leaving through where we entered. There was a path that we should've followed but we wanted to wait out the rain and buy more stuff from where we first entered.

Then we headed back to the market place we were the day before and took some purikura!! Its like a bigger photobooth where you can enhance alot of your features and add alot of tidbits too!

After, we met up with Riko's family for some Taiken Sushi. From what I heard, it's usually on a small conveyer belt where you can pick and choose your sushi, but since we had a big group, we sat at our table and ordered there instead. It was sooooo goood!!!

It was literally one of best places I've ever eaten sushi! (BETA Natasha's note: I wonder why, haha!)

Afterwords, I really wanted to buy a yukata that I saw the day before, so Riko and I went back to the market place while Meghan and Riko's family went back home.

Thank god the place was still open; I bought the yukata and really wanted to try it on when I went back to Riko's.

We took the bus back, and then ate some snacks her mom offered us before trying on my yukata.

It was so lovely, I was glad I got it! Riko's mom was the best helping me try it on. I thanked her a million times for also being a great host for us!

Riko, Meghan, and I had to go to sleep ASAP as we knew tomorrow was going to be a big day for us!
